Seminar “Women empowerment” in India

On 20th September 2019 a seminar on “Women Empowerment in India” was conducted at IMED, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune, India. The seminar was organized by Dr. Kirti Mahajan (Director International Students’ Center, BVDU, Pune), with an objective to spread awareness and share knowledge about the current scenario of women in the Indian society and emphasizing as to what measures can be taken to strengthen their position in the society.

A detailed presentation was delivered by Dr. Sonal Shivagnde, an alumni of BVDU Social Science and a social sector consultant, where she shared her extensive on field knowledge and experience on the topic. Certain topics of the seminar were covered by Shambhavi Shimal and Sakina Bharmal, students of MBA of Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development (IMED).

The seminar covered the following topics:

  1. About Step Up for Rights of Females Project
  2. Concept of Women Empowerment
  3. Situation of Women worldwide
  4. Why should we focus on women empowerment?
  5. Initiatives taken for empowering women

The topic was ended with some intrinsic questions on where do they stand in terms of women empowerment and what initiatives however small do they take to empower the women around them, for the audience to ponder over.

The seminar was attended by more than 150  students of Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development (IMED) of the Bharati Vidyapeeth Campus of Kothrud, Pune. There was equal representation from males and females which is a positive sign in the sense of gender equity.

The seminar shed light on certain facts of the world on the situation of women which was enlightening for the audience. As well as all the work that is being done in our nation towards empowerment and how much more we need to accomplish in the coming years to come.

The seminar started with audience interaction on their views and ideas on basic terms such as woman, female, girl, lady, gender equality and so on. It also brought the topic of gender equity to light for the audience, most of whom were unaware of the same. There was a question and answer round in the end that brought out many questions and concerns that were answered by the speaker

This seminar was presented under the guidance of Dr. Kirti Mahajan.

Conference “Framework for reflection on gender-based violence” in Senegal

The conference took place on July 15, 2019 at the Hotel Kadiandoumagne, Ziguinchor.

The main topics of the conference were:

1 – Prevalence of domestic violence against women: how to address it and provide a safe environment.
2 – Prevalence of excision made on girls from 0-14 years. Women’s place in decision-making.
3 – Sensitization on gender-based violence: what is the role and place of men?

Conference “Community development” in Honduras

The conference took place at 4th May in Siguatepeque, Honduras.

The main topics of the conference were:

– Skills assessment in the community
– Presentation of products of women
